23 - Standstill - Isa ... REVERSED

The Rune Isa Reversed.

The summary opposite concerns the reversed interpretation of the
rune Isa. As this is the same as the upright interpretation, in practice there is no "reversed" meaning of this rune.

This is one of those runes for which the "reversed" interpretation is the same as the "upright" interpretation (for further explanation of this see the page about reversed runes).

As appears for Isa (Upright):

The rune Isa is sometimes called the "ice" rune in English. Alternatives names include "standstill" (as used here), and "freeze".

This is a rune of delay. Isa heralds a time of inactivity and of waiting, such as the period of gestation before a birth. The subject of your concern or runecasting is postponed, put on-hold, we could even say put "on ice" if and when the rune isa appears in a casting.

This is an opportunity for reflection and soul-searching.
Consider what it is that you are, perhaps mentally and emotionally, holding on to - and which is holding you back and resulting in this period of delay. To learn about how patterns of thought and feelings may hold us back read *You Can Heal Your Life* by Louise L. Hay

In the context of relationships, Isa predicts a period of cooling-down. When the subject of concern is health then Isa emphasizes the importance of sufficient rest. As far as work, employment, and business in concerned the advice is to use quiet periods wisely.

The meanings of the runes.

Note that each rune may be referred to differently in different texts. One reason is that some books prefer to use the traditional meanings as the names/titles of the runes (as we do here). Other books refer to runes using the Old English name, their Old (High) German names, or their modern English letter equivalent. There are also other sets of symbols that are associated with runes. These are more difficult to represent electronically because they do not all correspond to standard alpha-numeric characters. More about the runes as listed here.

Other terms used to refer to this rune are mentioned below:
The twenty-third rune in the series listed on the left is Standstill (Isa).
The name of this rune in English is "is". It is associated with the modern English character/sound "i". The Germanic name of this rune is "isa-", which is sometimes written with accents not used in the standard English character set so textbooks in English may call this rune simply isa.
